I just finished reading
"Taking up the Runes" by Diana L. Paxson
The book is good; not the best I have ever read, I felt that the writer was thoughtful and insightful but I was very aware that she was feminine in her writing style. I think it may be better received by women.
My favorite quote from the book has got to be
"The ("Rigsthula") poem presents certain problems for the citizen of a democracy, since it seems to propose a divine origin for an ethnically based, stratified society."
Some other recommendations for Norse mythology books are
"The little Giant Encyclopedia of Runes" by Sirona Knight- that one is good to understand the 24 memes of Odin
Norse Magic by D.J. Conway- a nice little paperback that makes for an easy read
"Asatru" by Stephen A McNallen should be required reading in High School. That is a really good one.
as for lighter reading by McNallen
"Thunder from the North" is really good
"Asatru book of faith" is more for the military than civilians but I think just about anyone could get a lot out of it.
You goys are on top of this whole book club thing... in Denver, we just call it a "book club" as a euphemism.
