I don't recommend Linux to anyone because it doesn't have the apps and/or games they need.
But it's really not so bad these days if you don't keep fucking with it, (like get bored and try to customize your desktop excessively).
I kinda went full circle: Used Linux on desktop because I thought that was cool but wasted many hours. Then I pitched that as a time waster and mostly used it only for work.
But then when using it for work I slowly realized between canonical cleaning it up for desktops and them and everyone going to a more minimalist philosophy on updates/features combined with USB (esp USB 3.0) obsoleting so much of the need for drivers it's pretty damned usable.
