Expressing milk doesn't get the full milk out of the breast.
There's foremilk, which sits at the front of the breast. This the watery bit that relieves the thirst of the baby. That's why strictly no water or other fluid is required in those first vital 6 months of exclusive breastfeeding.
Then there's the hind milk which is a thicker milk, the fats and the nutrients which sits deeper in the breast.
Expressing, mixes both these mixtures together leading to colicky problems. This isn't the way nature has made things.
Also you need the vision of the baby at the breast and the baby's sucking motions felt at the breast.
This releases a let down reflex, releasing an even more concreted hind milk. This you cannot get out of expressing alone.
Also expressing doesn't tell the woman's body to make as much milk as the baby tells it.
The baby is the total expert here.
Mother and baby should never be separated not even once.
