Manjaro Linux looks pretty good! I'm getting some installation media to try it out on a spare partition.

Also keen to have a look at Trisquel as I've heard a lot of good things about it.

Manjaro with Xfce. But there's some blatant kikery going on. There's a kikestar in the user accounts pictures, and the Mime-type editor icon is a kikestar too. Other than that, it's my favorite distro so far.

I started on Ubuntu years ago, then moved to Mint, and finally settled on Debian. I like security and stability over the newest thrills. Unity makes me sick for some reason. Gnome 3 was irritating at first, but I've grown fond of it forcing me to use more keyboard shortcuts.

Manjaro as of the moment. I just can't find myself to go back to Ubuntu knowing that they allowed amazon into the os.
Another issue i haven't completely worked out is whether systemd is trust-able. If anyone has any input on the case please comment.

Sounds like systemd adoption may be a bit of a fork in the road for Linux users.

I agree. I just irrationally hate it. You can make some tweaks to improve it a lot though, but I don't use it. Also Compiz is also so full of bugs that nobody can fix them, (seriously - they have a call out for developers).

I've never used just plain Debian. I've always wondered why more people don't, since most of the big distros are built on top of it anyway. Is it ugly or something?

That's what I thought a few years ago when I switched. Why not go to the source? Gnome 3 is standard now so it has some eye candy. I guess the releases are too infrequent for many.

I have several RPi 2s and most of them run OpenElec with Kodi as media players.

OpenELEC is a pretty good platform for developing media apps. Last year I wrote a couple of Kodi apps that scraped alt-right content into apps without too much trouble. It's mostly python and XML.

I also run Raspian (Linux) and RetroPi (Emulators) on two other Pis. The RetroPi is setup to work with my old SNES controllers and I have emulators for most of the other old game consoles too. I don't buy games any more but I do like the retro gaming stuff.

Just personal and they weren't complicated. One app scraped renseradio archives for Stormfont and David Duke shows. Another pulled content from some youtube channels. Given a little time to polish it up I'd consider offering it to others if there was demand. I definitely think there's a lot of potential in the OpenELEC/Kodi platform but I haven't seen much talk of it here.

It would be handy to have all the Youtube channels and podcasts in one addon.

We use Kodi heavily at our house. I have a bunch of kid friendly White channels set up for the young ones with the Youtube addon and that's primarily what they watch. My 3 year old son can work it now.

I use Fedora and I like it. Course I am fond of the gnome desktop. I couldn't get into unity so would either run gnome or kde if I tried ubuntu. Course I see ubuntu is going to gnome!

If you want to go keyboard-oriented, give i3wm a shot. It takes a few days to get used to but is comfy and good for laptops. No longer have to abuse the trackpad just to do basic window management.

I'll check it out and edit this post with my thoughts. I think I did try it ages ago and just couldnt get into it. I have i3 setup in a way that could be hard to replicate in awesome.

It seems like a good alternative to i3wm but personally I like i3wm better. I guess it doesn't matter too much which one you use. As a side note, if I had to recommend a full desktop environment, it would be either LXDE/LXQT or XFCE. When I first got into linux I used LXDE as it was close to Windows' GUI.

I think the consensus is i3wm. But I liked awesome better. I was experimenting with them both in VMs, but use XFCE on my DD (daily driver).

+1 for XFCE. I've used it in Xubuntu on my workstation for several years.

Definitely going to give i3wm a try.

Enlightenment is an interesting one too: https://www.enlightenment.org/. It's minimalist in it's way but does compositing and can have lots of eye candy if you set it up that way.
