The best bike for first year riders is an older, small cc (under 450cc) bike. It has to be a bike that if you dump it, it's not the end of the world.
It's also vital that you take a riding course.
Once you get comfortable riding with your first bike (usually a riding season), you should upgrade a bit. Still get a used bike, but get a slightly larger bike (I recommend up to 750 cc) and ride this. Ride for a few years until you have proved a good record for insurance, then get the bike you want.
Here's my bike history:
Year 1: 1983 Suzuki GS450T (450cc)
Year 2-6: 1984 Honda Magna V45 (700cc)
Year 7-11: 2006 Suzuki M109R (1800cc)
Year 12-current: 2011 Harley Davidson Fatboy (1600cc)
Good luck with your journey...bike riding is very dangerous, especially if you live in cities with substantial amounts of subhumans. It's best to be as proficient as you can. You must view getting into an accident as likely death (car always beats bike for survival). There is nothing like riding a motorcycle, but it comes with a danger factor.
