well i always thougth sporster was the best harly bike (to my taste) then i was surprised when the anglos harley fags told me i liked 'bitch bikes'

A stock 1200 sporty will run circles around any "big twin". Guys i ride with that are on street glides are grinding floor boards around corners that the old sporty barely leans in.

I had the kick stand grind on me a few times and i was very suprised how much lean a sporty has before hard parts start dragging.

well thats what i thougth exactly... well i guess tehy dont understand why its called the 'sportster' and how where the other harleys when that one came out.

so they take slower heavier bike that cant lean and somewhat its sportier than the less heavy shorter wheelbased bike that can lean...and just by coincidence its named sporter.

If there is one thing ive learned about HD, at least the evo's anyways is that they cant take a constant flogging. To much throttle too often and youll get real good at replacing top end gaskets. Im on my third set. Finally these are holding but i dont ride it nearly as hard as before. Thats what the honda is for anyways!!

exactly... its no secret that they cant take 'it' all the time

it would be frustrating if the bike were rocket fast. but as they are i dont see the urge to keep them wide open all the time

a good shot of torque to get going and then you cruise...thats how i understand them. before all the bikes were like that

old british bike were notoriously unreliable. most old brit bikes required that you lift the head at every oil change.so its just a remnanty of the olden days but still will little restraint they can be as tough as a modern bike. nothing like the 60's and 70's bikes

My front tire was flat again. Fffffuuuuaaaakakkk!!!

I dont think ill ever spoon on tires myself again. I must have gauged the shit out of the wheel lip. I have stands now so i broke the bead, rotated the tire 6 inches or so on the wheel and reseated it. Seems to be holding air now (but i thought it was before also).

Doind tires by hand just isnt worth it when you can bring the wheels to a shop and pay $20 a wheel. At least i can say i did it once tho. Lol

I've been riding for three years now. My first and current bike is a 97 HD Dyna. 80"/1340cc Evo. S&S cam, Ultima 6 speed, Thunderheader, .20 over jugs, port/polished heads, 10:1 pistons, and misc other stuff. Needs a better clutch and ignition. And brakes. I guess.

Speedo doesn't work, bars are bent, both fenders are a bit crumpled, and a ton of other scars mar my bike, but each one tells a story. I highly recommend motorcycling to anyone who's curious. I didn't buy a bike to fit into any group, but you're going to make friends whether you want to or not when you're genuine about riding, and I've met a lot of good people that I otherwise wouldn't have. I wouldn't be here today talking to you fine folks without my Harley. Deuces!

My brakes really need attention. Suspension too. My bike's a nose diver for sure. My bike eats pads on the rear like nobody's business lately, and I'm not sure why.
I haven't spent $1 on anything cosmetic.

Who needs chrome when you can get more horses?! (the whitewall tire was a dealer mis-order, they ate the difference. It's growing on me though)

HD brakes are shitty if not maintained. Im not saying you dont maintain your shit but they are tricky. The caliper pistons have no boots so they get dirty really fast. If you need to pull the lever untill it hits your knucles to get any stopping power the pistons need to be cleaned. Its an easy job.

Rear brake could be eating pads because you use it more (because the front brakes on HD are shit) or it could be riding due to the piston being dirty.

All HD front suspention is garbage so they all nose dive under braking (with exception of the XR1200 which has non HD suspention).

Yeah, my guess was a grimed up piston. An easy enough fix, just remove caliper and pump the pistons out a bit and scrape the crud off. Push back in (C-clamps help) and reinstall.

I hose them down with brake cleaner, it takes all the crud off with no scraping needed unless the piston is really really dirty.

A competant rider on a 600 would slap average joe in the ass, with his throttle hand, mid corner as he passed him.

That is a very real thing. I thought long and hard about putting a dry shot on my liter bike. After all the research and realizing it would be several thousand dollars to do it right i started thinking "why is 130hp not enough". Lol. You really can have just as much fun on a 600 imo.
