All the Millenials know this song but they don't know the full album "Kilroy was Here" nor the full film. Both were a social satire of the day.
You see, back in the late 1970's through the mid 1990's people were claiming that Rock Music was hiding hidden messages to make people not only kill themselves but preform crime and become anarchists and communists and satan worshipers. Kilroy was Here is a Styx album that satires the whole concept. Set about 30 years in the future, it is a dystopia where Rock and Roll is banned and the culture of Rock and Roll forms an underground resistance movement. The government is totalitarian and people have developed a mental lazyness thanks to Robotic Butlers from Japan that take up all the jobs and services of humans. People become lazy and apathetic to life. The Rockers are the primary resistace movement, led by the last rocker to be imprisoned during a concert when the new laws became enacted, James Killroy.
It's beautiful and very underrepresented. Sad all people know is the opening track, Domo Arigotto, Mr. Roboto, and they don't even know what it means.
