There's a listing of them on Wikipedia by state...I think my state, Alabama has 12 or so...Kentucky has the most by far..
Ever since Charlottesville, there's a "progressive group" that's trying to raise the $25K to pay the fine they'd be charged for removing the statue without approval from the (extremely conservative) committee. What the don't understand is ifvthey take it down, it goes right back up AND they pay the fine.
So far the Tennessee valley progressive alliance (what a dumb name) has raised 480$ of the 25K goal. Every story talking about it on local news sources has residents saying, "not today you're not, hell, no that statue is staying up..." with only a handful of people saying we're Nazis for keeping them and then they're laughed at.
Our legislature passed a bill in may 2017 that immediately protects any monument over 40 years old from removal. They have to file an application, request to move it & then they'll most likely be turned down. The law covers monuments, street names, park names, anything historical. One is right down the street from my house...and yes, the national media has been making a big deal out of the fact that Alabama had the audacity to protect their monuments.
You can feel it in the air, "by the pricking of my thumb, something wicked this way comes" as in Antifa...I'm waiting to see how long it takes them after Durham to try that in another state...and then finally end up in Alabama. I can't shake the feeling that our rednecks aren't going to take that very well. And as much as liberals call my city progressive, it's really not very much.
Think large Hell's Angel contingent, there's a few of those clubs here. At this stage, it's a point of pride and the idea of, "what else will they decide to try & take" if we don't fight back right now. Time will tell...
