Just upgraded GPU. It is the best card I've ever had. It did set me back £400 though.

CPU: i7-4770k @ 4.5GHz (using H110i watercooler)

GPU: Gigabyte G1 GTX 1070 (IT'S A BEAST!)
HDD: Old 3TB Seagate and a backup 200GB crap one.

Looking to upgrade to a 1440p monitor and SSD as boot drive, notwithstanding price. Maybe when I get a job, lol.

If you have not yet tried to install Linux on your workstation or laptop, I highly recommend it (especially Ubuntu or Fedora). Way better than using Windows.

I wanted an AMD card but all the 580s are in mining rigs right now.

Ah, shame. Just switched to nvidia after only using AMD cards before, all of which were problematic in their functioning shall we say. You tried nvidia? The GTX 1060 mighta been good for your budget.

edit: nvm, just googled benches, looks like the 570 is the contemporary of the 1060 and just as good by many metrics.

Is that the newer one or the older one? Was looking into those, they're a bit expensive though and Idk if the 1070 needs that added resolution stress.

it really does pay to spend a bit more, if you can, to avoid problems and upgrades for as long as possible imo.

Agreed, getting good hardware sets you up for the future in the most cost-efficient way. You can go years without upgrading, if you're not obsessed with FPS and always playing AAA titles. My ~2013 i7-4770k is still going STRONK 4 years later, and is for all intents and purposes just as good as most newer i7s, with the exception you can't run the newer DDR4 RAM and stuff.

Taking a look in my closet... Model #UE590, not sure if that's the new or old. It was on deep discount after Christmas in 2016, so might have been getting rid of the old models? Didn't do much research on the monitor (unlike all the other parts), just happened to stumble across it on sale randomly one day (not at my usual CPU store).

Ah ok, yes I think that was one of the ones I was looking at. I was getting mixed up with the ASUS ones, of which there is a newer and an older variant of the 4k line.

Is that one a good monitor? Much ghosting or anything? Good colour?

Very, very sharp - it stood out among the display of discounted monitors just for the deep blacks and sharp, sharp contrast (unlike one of those curved monitors I was checking out - can't recall the brand - which seemed so faded and dull in comparison).

As far as technical issues, I haven't had a single one (and to boot it looks absolutely stunning, smooth, crisp, the whole nine yards when running Total War: Attila on top settings in max resolution - and I wasn't a fan of that game when I first played it on my laptop at ALL). Definitely a quality product - but then, I've ALWAYS gone Samsung for Monitors or TVs of any sort, they really do have the display market down-pat.

Yea the 1060 was in my cart for a couple weeks but I dropped it for the R5 1600 and decided to get a better gpu when rx570 and 580 are back. I'm oc'ing my 560 right now, changed out thermal paste on the gpu, took out the vrm tape and replaced it with thermal paste and lapped the heat sinks. So far I can get +100mhz (1400) on the core and +200mhz (1950) on the memory. I'm starting to mess around with the fan curve to keep it cool but not draw too much power. Its been a blast, I wouldn't do this with a better card.

Edit: I burned out the gpu fan running it at 100% full time so I bolted on a 120mm fan, we're getting a little hot

My computer is a fucking ancient relic from the 2009 which still runs windows xp and can't play games more graphically intense than Age of Empires 3.
