Well you need to know how to operate various weapons. If you don't have your own you can rent them at the range. You need to know what it feels like to aim and put rounds on target with 9mm, 40sw, and 45acp chambered handguns. You also need to practice your rifle handling skills and know how to shoot long range accurately.
For basic rifle skills you can actually get yourself a nice pellet rifle and train in your backyard. This is a cheap way to practice mechanics. I would purchase a surplus military rifle such as a nagant or sks...if budget allows then by all means get an AR.
There's all these guys on youtube doing all this fancy shit holding their rifles with their arms cocked out to the side and shit...fuck all that bullshit. The best training you can get is stalking, hunting, and killing real live prey. That means going hunting. I shit you not I am more scared of the average country boy with his shotgun, rifle, and a 4 wheel drive than most of these shitstain bearded operator wannabe blowhards.
