Why are topics closing?

I am just curious as to why some topics close a day after the last reply.

If you want to continue an already closed discussion, you can do so by:

• selecting the relevant post from the discussion by using the j or k keys
• pressing the key t to continue the topic in a new thread

OR

• clicking the link icon on the relevant post
• clicking the New Topic in the popup

Comments and News Posts to Auto-Close 24 Hours After the Last Post

This is only on the Comments and News boards.

If you have the ability, you could change the category to General Discussion. That makes sense if the topic is old. It's not News any more.

Well... I tried to take my own advice. I wanted to re-open a topic I started. There's been an update/development on a News story I wrote up. So, I changed it from News to General Discussion, BUT... The closed lock is still on. Damnit.
